Supporting young students from Genadendal with higher education
Genadendal and surrounding villages are struggling with poverty, alcohol and drug abuse, domestic violence, and a lack of opportunities — especially for children and young people.
During the research carried out by Caroline Dusée, she spent many years in Genadendal, a small community in the Theewaterskloof area of South Africa's Overberg region to discover it was a neglected community deeply troubled by poverty and all sorts of problems. A community in need of support and requesting for help.
Together with the community, the municipality and local transformation board, we are now implementing the 'For the People, By the People' project.
Phase 1: Safe Spaces and Nutrition
We are creating safe spaces where children can go after school — where they receive food and healthy nutrition, both of which are often lacking at home.
In Addition:
In addition we will offer educational support and scholarships for young people in Genadendal. The scholarships are meant for their higher education. One scholarship is specifically awarded to a community leader who will follow specific education for his role as community development leader and will guide and monitor our other projects in Genadendal.

- Safe shelters for children (who often come home alone or to unsafe environments)

Offering Scholarships for students in Genadendal
- Offering additional costs like study-material, transport and housing
- Support and guidance through social workers during study years
- Scholarship for local community leader who will monitor and guide other Genadendal projects as well
Long-term Vision
Support young people in accessing higher education and to improve the nutritional situation of vulnerable school children. And hereby strengthen local community structures.
